The truth about growing up as a Blasian kid around the 🌍✨:

Beauty standards are often shaped by scarcity—the harder something is to achieve, the more it tends to be desired.

I witnessed firsthand how much beauty standards vary across cultures. In some places, being very slim is idealized, while in others—particularly in parts of Africa—a fuller figure is associated with beauty, health, or status.

In many parts of Asia, lighter skin is often associated with social privilege, while in many Western countries a tan is seen as desirable and linked to wealth, since it can imply travel or time spent outdoors rather than in an office.

Growing up in Africa, China, and Europe made me realize how much beauty standards are shaped by culture, history, media, and society. What makes you stand out in one place may be exactly what is appreciated in another.

What’s considered attractive can change completely depending on where you are.
